I’m a systems administrator for America’s largest telephone cooperative, HTC, in Conway, SC. I primarily focus on Microsoft operating systems and infrastructure, VMware virtualization and blade servers for the co-op. I joined the Network Adminstration group at HTC in June of 2006. I obtained my VMware VCP3 in June of 2009 and my VCP4 in December of 2009.
Prior to that, I took a few years of “vacation” from systems administration as a web programming for Coastal Carolina University. While there, I designed and programmed a new athletics website for the university – GoCCUSports.com, though it has relaunched with CBS Sports since. I provided design and web programming for the University and did a lot of programming to move business processes onto the web. I was also tasked with the University Portal project, MyCoastal, creating most of the portal still in place today.
Before my vacation, I burnt out worked for 5 years as a consultant for lots of businesses in Myrtle Beach – maintaining networks, servers, workstations and infrastructure. I was sort of a jack of all trades. I started with the company when I was only 18 and quickly learned a variety of skills that ultimately led me to my work today. We did almost anything – firewalls and networking (including pulling wire – <sarcasm>loved that!</sarcasm>) to application customization and programming. And, I was one of the few in Myrtle who could work on a Mac…
That is my true tech passion — the Mac and, really, all things Apple. My house currently has a 15″ MacBook Pro, a 20″ Intel iMac, a MacBook Air (though this is my wife’s – not mine…), an Apple TV, Airport Extreme, Airport Express, two iPod Mini’s and an iPhone. I follow all the Apple rumor mills and wait patiently for the next big thing. I say it a lot – I work on broken computers and problems all day – at home, I want something that just works and my Mac fits that perfectly.
In 2005, I started a web design company with a college classmate. He and I combined our individual endeavors into Zeal Technologies, LLC, and worked with a variety of customers creating basic web presences, e-commerce stores, and web applications. In November of 2009, we merged our company with Eagle Web Designs to bring our customers a new level of service and support.
I am married to my college sweetheart. We met in the newspaper office way back in my freshman year of school. We got married about 2 weeks after I graduated from college. We have one little girl, Peyton Victoria, who joined us on October 30, 2006. We also maintain a personal blog at blog.philipsellers.com.
