New MacBook Pro has arrived

One of the perks at my full-time employeer is the ability to do an employee computer purchase during the year.  With just 15% down, the company will finance the rest of a computer and payroll deduct the remaining amount from your paycheck.  In addition, they usually get pretty decent discount because of quantity with the [...]

Well, after a week of issues with the Parallels Desktop 4.0 upgrade, I trashed my VM that I have lovingly used for the past year and I have started over with a fresh import from the Virutal PC VHD file I keep on hand.  See, here is my history with Windows virtualization on the Mac:  [...]

I just returned from the HP Customer Focused Testing VMware Technical Forum in Colorado Springs, CO.  HP’s Colorado Springs facility is primarily the StorageWorks storage products location – specializing in their XP, EVA and MSA storage arrays.  I was very impressed with the amount of technical knowledge by the folks there, the facilities and not [...]

Well, it seems that my problem isn’t with the new version of Parallels Desktop, but with the VM image that I have upgraded, several times.  A little background:  my Windows XP is a licensed copy originally purchased with Virtual PC back in the PowerPC days of Mac.  I imported this image into Parallels in version [...]

Dell thin client presentation

Posted by: Philip In: HTC| My Projects| Virtualization

We met with Dell via conference call last week to go over their offering for thin-clients.  They basically showed off their Optiplex FX160 thin client.  To me, its more of a very small PC than thin-client with options of adding a hard drive and other hardware.  It does run XP Embed or a SUSE LInux. Slow week

Posted by: Philip In: HTC| Virtualization

Its been a fairly slow week around work.  Having caught up with several projects and entered waiting phase for some things, its been a week mostly dealing with cleanup.  The only real ‘action’ is trying to patch for Microsoft’s latest vulnerability – the remote code exploit that was announced last week.  The patch seems mostly [...]
