Goals for work

29, Oct 2008

Last week, my supervisor asked the group to provide him with goals for our coming year as part of the annual review process.  I find this particularly difficult – as I tend to be fairly proactive and take care of things quickly when I see something arise.  Planning goals a year out has always been [...]

I’ve encountered an issue with recent version of WordPress which I believe I have found a fix for.  I’m a big fan of the new gallery abilities that have been built into the 2.5 and 2.6 versions of WordPress.  To me, they easily allow for uploading and posting photo galleries and work great – at [...]

For a couple of months now, we’ve been trying to sort through the mess that is Microsoft’s licensing for the virtual world.  Our research culminated today with a meeting with several Microsoft employees about the status of licensing and the product portfolio that Microsoft is offering.  The biggest issue we’ve had is getting straight answers [...]

As an update to my earlier post, we did need to replace our power supplies in the two enclosures that we had purchased.  We are in the process of replacing them over the next two days.  Our replacement units arrived in our warehouse yesterday.  I will upate with the process as we complete it.

We are on the quest for the best thin client for our uses at HTC.  My co-worker, Jason, has been leading the evaluation process.  So far, different people in my group have seen presentations from Pano Logic, HP, Wyse and we have Dell coming later this month.  We have evaluated the Pano Logic solution and [...]

Apple has just announced redesigned MacBooks and MacBook Pros at an event held in Cupertino.  This is the first resdesign in almost 5 years for the MacBook Pros.  The Pros have kept essentially the same design as its Powerbook predecessor and there have only been incremental improvements (such as adding integrated iSight cameras).  The new [...]

Apple has announced an event scheduled for Tuesday aptly titled “The spotlight shifts to notebooks”.  I’m very eager to see what they have in store for us.  Its about time to retire the ole Powerbook and upgrade to something nicer.  I’m hoping a redesign to the MacBook Pros is in the works for us all. [...]

I found this alert from Aaron Delp’s blog about certain c7000 Bladesystems from HP which need power supplies replaced.  There is an “extremely rare” potential that if one of the power supplies fails, it could lead to a complete shutdown on the entire enclosure.  I’m out of the office today, but I believe our bladesystems will [...]

Update shortages

7, Oct 2008

Sorry for the update shortages.  I have had a tough week with the death of a great-aunt last week.  I hope to be back online posting daily from here on out.

I had a fairly major revelation during VMworld.  Its not something that I had stopped to think about and I guess the week of sessions and discussions helped me assemble several random thoughts together.   First, I’ve always relegated virutalization to a status where it is certainly a valuable technology and integral part of HTC’s [...]
